Valentine's Day

Did you have a happy Valentine's Day? Because I did. Of course I missed being away from my familia but I had lots of other people I love to spend the day with.

For example...

I was specifically requested to sit next to this dashing young man at dinner. Our Valentine's Thanksgiving dinner to be exact. Am I a lucky girl or what?!

And the girls also got an oyster in a can. It was actually really cool and I only gagged once (for those of you who are aware of my gag reflexes, you will know that is quite an accomplishment). They came in a little tuna-like can with some water in it that we opened and then inside each oyster was a pearl. We had a little card that showed us the possible colors and what each meant. Everyone but me got cream which means "happiness". What did I get you ask? White. which means "Innocence". Hmm. We realized half-way into the pearl searching that we should be documenting the event so here are a few low-quality pictures from my phone.

It doesn't help that there are nightly marathons that go into the wee hours of the morning. And the fact that they start one episode right after the other-without a commercial break in between-is not good either (in fact, it should probably be illegal). Every night my roommate and I make sure our door is locked and bolted and then we turn the TV to channel 50.

My dad asked me how we can go to bed after watching such a disturbing show. And although sometimes we have to change the channel because we get too scared, when our other roommates walk in the door we jump and we double and triple-check the locks on our door, the answer is quite simple...

New York, here I come!

For some reason, I have always loved New York City. I loved it before I had even been there. I remember I used to tell my mom that it was a dream of mine to go to New York at Christmas time, sit on a bench, and drink hot cocoa as I watched people walk by with all of their shopping bags. In 2004, that dream came true when My mom, dad, Hannah and I went there for a quick trip before Christmas. And guess what?? I didn't love it like I thought I would...I loved it even more! I don't know why but I just do. I have been back since and it is just as magical to me as it was the first time. So, the time came last semester when people in the Communications Department at BYU started talking about the NY Internship Program. I have been waiting YEARS to be able to apply and had big plans about creating the perfect portfolio. Of course, I procrastinated but with the help of my mom and dad and their creative eyes, I finished it just in time (literally, within like a minute of the due date). I did not like the two months I had to wait to find out about it, but all that waiting finally paid off because I just found out about two weeks ago that I was.....

accepted!

I don't know all of the details about where I'll be working yet but I do know that I will be living here. (Isn't it beautiful)

Hope for Haiti

My mom sent me an email this morning about a fundraiser for Doctors Without Borders. A few ladies had the idea to put together an etsy shop to help raise money for this organization as they help with medical care in Haiti after the earthquake. The idea is that whoever wants to can donate any of their products to the etsy shop and the proceeds to go help this cause. Anyone can purchase the items from the shop (you can get there by clicking on the button on the top, left side of this blog) and there is some pretty cute stuff! I donated this little onesie that my mom and I made a while back. It's not much but i hope it will be able to help in some small way.

Long Overdue

I know, I know. I did just what I said I wouldn't by starting a blog and then abandoning it after just the first post. But in my defense, I was sick and busy! After Thanksgiving I came down with who knows what (I say it was H1N1 just to sound cool), which was not so convenient considering we jumped right into finals. Those last few weeks consisted of waking up bright and early to arrive to a campus that looked like this:

And being in the library into the wee hours of the morning only to come out at 2 a.m. and see this:

But don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. I secretly love the stress of finals week although I'm glad it's finally over. This note was the perfect ending to my finals week experience:

As I walked down the testing center steps after taking my Media Law final which I was sure I failed (don't worry, I didn't though) I saw this sitting at the bottom of the staircase. I could care less if I failed after that.

I wanted to have my blog up and running in time for Thanksgiving but let's be honest, it's 3:45 the morning of...that's not going to happen. But I still wanted to share this video and wish everyone a very happy Thanksgiving.
